Laura Potts - Research Advisor

Reader in Public Health and the Environment at York St John University.

Much of my work has been concerned with breast cancer: the social movements that have given political momentum to understanding of the disease; the environmental risks implicated in causing it; and with policy making for its primary prevention. Recent projects have been characterized by an emphasis on building bridges between science and its publics at national and international levels. Such a perspective also shapes the work I do locally for the City of York, as a member of the Sustainable York Steering Group. At national level, I chair the UK Public Health Association's Environmental Pollution and Health Group, and am on the board of Trustees of the Pesticides Action Network UK. I publish regularly in academic and popular health journals, and maintain an engagement as an activist involved in UK and international campaign networks. I am also passionate about real food, and have had an organic allotment for over twenty years that feeds me and my friends well.
